I, Carly, Do Solemly Swear

to purchase NO NEW YARN** until such time as the house renovation is complete.

Yeah, seriously.

I told Jake, but for some strange reason I feel I'll be more accountable to the blog. Is that bad? I think it's just because, really, Jake doesn't care what I do with my own money, so if I buy yarn I don't need, it really doesn't affect him. Not that it affects YOU either, but you know what I mean.

I did a rough budget for what it's going to take to do all the work we've got planned, and let me tell you, it ain't cheap! We did plan on making some changes, so we have a good bit that we saved in lieu of a bigger down payment when we bought the house. But, even with the savings, the work is going to take a small bite out of our normal monthly budget, so I feel like I should not spend frivolously when the money could go into the house. Plus, if I look practically, I have more yarn for actual projects than I could knit for a while, anyway. I have the yarn needed for: Maude, Picovoli, Lelah, Sizzle, Retro Shrug Redeux, Tempting, a BSJ, Clara, Twinkletoes and a Hooded Baby Sweater. I also have plenty of sock yarn and will be getting WoolGirl and Mama Llama shipments from my clubs. If pressed, I could probably even come up with a couple felted bags and a shawl or two from the stash. My knitting time is going to be decreased as I will be having to actually WORK on the house, so it's not like this 'no purchasing' thing should be a hardship :) Let's be honest, come this time next year, I probably still won't have finished everything I just listed!

So there it is, out in the Universe to hold me accountable! Yipes!

**Does not include purchases made for others in swaps. (ps - I do not plan on signing up for a crazy amount of swaps to compensate, I swear!)

good luck with that ;)

That is very noble of you. Hopefully, the swaps will keep you anchored. Even though my stash if full and my current WIPs do not require any additional yarn, I find myself buying yarn too often.

I am in the same boat as you, so I will check back often and make sure you haven't bought anything else to go in your stash. We will be renovating our basement, so I promised my DH that I wouldn't purchase any more yarn... then I heard from a friend that our local yarn store was closing and having a 50% off sale. I appealed to my husband, and we made a one time exception to our agreement, then I went on my shopping spree! But no more, I promise. :)

Let me know if this strategy works. God knows I need some sort of intervention too :) I will say I've gotten much better with the destash though :)

Good luck!!

we'll *try* to hold you accountable but remember that trying to talk you out of needles debacle? when we all said "just buy them!" you'd be further ahead just asking us to help you rationalize and provide validation when something goes amiss with the reno and you NEED some FIBRE COMFORT. (we are all looking to you as an example of self restraint, but no pressure... ; ))
