Halloween is Coming!

I love carving pumpkins. Please don't confuse that in any way with me being GOOD at carving pumpkins. . . my artistic ability pretty much ends at triangle eyes. I find the whole thing fun, nonetheless. I especially like playing with the pumpkin guts!

Yesterday, Jake & I went to buy our pumpkins to carve. The church I *thought* had a pumpkin stand, did not, in fact, so we ended up at another farm market. Pickins were relatively slim, given that it was only two days to go, but we found two we liked. I picked mine because it looked like a skull and I wanted to make it a pirate. Jake picked his because it was nice and round :)

We were very careful in cleaning out the pumpkins, as we wanted to roast the seeds. . . YUM!

Jake, being the 'get it done' kind of guy, dived right in with the carving. I, on the other hand, spend a lot of time 'planning' (it's not fair to call it procrastination!). I really wanted to make a pirate, but how to translate that onto a pumpkin was totally lost on me. After about 40 minutes of drawing samples on paper, I gave up on the pirate, and just went for a scary pumpkin.

Here are the results.
I'm jealous, Jake's pumpkin, with all his grapefruit-spoon-wielding flesh scraping, photographs great in the dark with the candle!
Mine not so much!

We tried to get a picture with the dogs, but, as usual, no cooperation from Jimmy Ray!

And the most impressive thing about the upcoming Halloween? I've had the bag of Halloween candy since October 11. . . and it's still fully intact! That's no small feat for me. Is it bad I'm secretly hoping we get no kids so I can eat all the candy?
